Trowel Applied Epoxy Flooring

Project: TurboCare Inc.
Location:
Rural Hall, NC
Flooring System:
Troweled Epoxy Topping with Decorative Quartz Broadcast
Type of Area:
Turbo Care is a manufacture of heavy industrial turbines sold to large energy companies throughout the world. The project was a 55 million dollar capital expansion of an existing 25 year old building. The scope of work included 160,000 sq ft of ¼” troweled epoxy topping with decorative quartz broadcast in 22,000 sq ft of aisle ways.
Results:
The biggest challenge was the 9,000 sq ft chemical containment area.  We provided a fiberglass reinforced epoxy novolac in all the pits and trenches to a seamless monolithic surface from the top of the curbing to the floor drains. MAIS was able to keep the project on schedule due to our field supervision and onsite value engineering. We worked closely with Turbo Care’s engineering and procurement to keep the project on budget.

Trowelled Resurfacing

Project: LSG Sky Chefs
Location: Newark, LaGuardia and JFK Airports
Flooring System:
Trowelled Resurfacer
Results:
All work was performed while customer was in operation. This scope of work was completed at various sites for this particular customer. After preparation by shotblasting, the quarry tile floor was resurfaced using novalac troweled epoxy mortar, including integral troweled cove base. The walls were coated with a 100% solids epoxy coating. The customer did not like the grout seams in the existing quarry tile floor. The finished floor was entirely seamless and sanitary.

Staining and Polishing

Project: Sabert, Food Packaging Manufacturer
Location: Sayreville, NJ
Flooring System: Trowell Resurfaced, Stained & Polished
Type of Area: During a 4th of July shutdown consisting of 9 days we blastracked, primed, and trowel applied 65,000 sf of 1/4” thick 100% solids epoxy resurfacer. This work was complicated by the fact that a lot of the work had to be done around existing blowmolding machinery. The plant had to be up and running on the 10th day. A lot of contractors backed off due to the scheduling requirements, however, Mid-Atlantic worked around the clock to a successful completion of this work within the given limits.
Results: Based on that success we were again contracted by Sabert to perform our services at their new facility in 2009/2010. We scrubbed and densified 125,000 sf of new warehouse floor, we applied a 1/4” thick resurfacer in the labs, and then stained and polished the office corridors along with the lobby area. Once this work was completed we then returned to the old building and trowelled the last 15,000 sf of floor with a 1/4” thick resurfacer where they deleted the old office space and turned it into new production areas.

Densifying and Polishing

Project: Herrod Construction Co.
Location: Jamesburg, NJ
Flooring System: 318,000 sf of Concrete Cap Removal, Densifying & Polishing
Type of Area: There was a problem with the concrete at this site, moisture was attracted from the air and onto the floor, which made the concrete floor extremely slick and very difficult for forklifts. The owner was faced with the possibility of having to remove and replace the entire floor. Testing was done and it was determined that only the top 1/8” was responsible for the problem. MAIS was able to shave the top 1/8” of concrete off the floor with their Shavemaster Diamond Grinders, and then grind the surface smooth with their Planetary Diamond Grinders, use a lithium based densifier to densify to floor and continue grinding to polish the concrete. This entire process was accomplished using MAIS’s Industrial Vacuums eliminating air born dust and allowing other trades to get their work done in a healthy environment.
Results: MAIS eliminated the moisture problem and the treated surfaces resist damage from water and surface abrasion. MAIS put a high gloss finish on the floor to resist dusting and simplify maintenance which produces a cleaner and healthier environment. The customer was pleased with the project, and MAIS was awarded a second job at that same facility.

Urethane Cementitious Flooring

Project: Conte’s Pasta
Location:
Vineland, NJ
Flooring System:
Urethane Cementitious Flooring
Type of Area:
5,000 sf production floor including a radius cove
Results: The USDA insisted that the production area floors be resurfaced. Due to frequent high temperature washdowns we chose to install Sikafloor PurCem 22N in a brick red color over the entire 5,000 sf production floor including a radius
cove around the full perimeter of the room. This was a turn key project that was successfully completed over a 3 day weekend shutdown which minimized the amount of time that Conte’s Pasta was out of production.
